How Toorova actually works
Straight answers about accounts, billing, classes, certificates and the AI tutor. Where the honest answer is "you can't do that yet", it says so.

Getting started
What is Toorova, and what do I need to begin?
Toorova is a structured course in AI and robotics. It runs in a web browser at toorova.com and as an app on iOS and Android. No payment and no prior knowledge. You answer six short questions, we build your plan, and you create a free account to keep it. Then you are in the first lesson. Each path also lists the prep it recommends on its own page. Advice, never a lock.
If you want the reasoning behind how the lessons are built, that is on the About page.
How much can I do for free?
The whole Foundations layer is free, permanently: AI Literacy, Coding Foundations, Python, Computer Science Foundations, Machine Learning Demystified and Robotics Foundations. Around a fifth of the catalogue, and the starting course of every track. Tooki talks you through the interactive exercises in his own voice, and that is free for everyone.
Free accounts can complete two lessons a day. Re-reading a lesson you have already finished never counts against that, and never expires, a subscriber whose subscription later lapses keeps all of their progress and falls back to these rules rather than losing anything.
Premium adds unlimited lessons, the interactive Tooki tutor, deeper personalization, and the intermediate, advanced and professional courses. You can also open the first lesson of any Premium course as a free preview. Current prices and billing periods are shown in the app at the moment you subscribe, because they differ by country and by store.
Do I have to create an account?
Yes. Setup ends with a free account, and that is deliberate: the plan we just built for you has to live somewhere. With an account it is on every device you sign into. Web, iOS, and Android, and it survives a new phone, a cleared browser, and a lost laptop. Without one it would live on exactly one device and nowhere else.
An account is free and stays free. It is not a subscription: the whole Foundations layer comes with it, forever, at two lessons a day.
I am under 13. Can I sign up?
Not on your own. Toorova accounts are for learners 13 and older. Under 13, a parent, guardian, or teacher creates the account and stays connected to it, so a young learner's record sits with an adult who can see it. If your teacher gives you a class code, that is the route. Join the class and your teacher sets the rest up.
Nothing stops you learning in the meantime: finish setup and the lessons open on the device you are using, with your progress stored on that device until an adult sets the account up.
Where do I start if I know nothing about AI?
At the beginning, the course is built for exactly that. The five stages are a deliberate order, not a menu, because each one teaches the vocabulary the next is graded on. If you want a longer answer, read Start learning AI with no background and What to learn first, and why the order matters.
Is Toorova available in Spanish?
Yes, the interface and the course. The Spanish catalog is written, not machine-translated, and held at parity with English. The AI features answer in the language you are using.
Choose in Settings → Language (System / English / Español). With no explicit choice the app follows your device or browser: any Spanish device gets Spanish, everything else falls back to English. This works the same on iOS, Android, and the web.
Can I switch to dark mode?
Yes, Settings → Appearance, with System, Light, and Dark. This page follows your system setting too.
Accounts and sign-in
How do I sign in?
Three ways: email and password, Sign in with Google, or Sign in with Apple. All three work on the web as well as in the apps.
If you use Sign in with Apple you may pick Apple's private email-relay address, and that relay address is the only one we ever see. That is fine, just remember which method you used, because signing in later with a different method creates a different account.
Does my progress sync between my phone and my laptop?
Yes, as long as you are signed in to the same account in both places. Progress, XP, streak, badges, and your place in a lesson sync across web, iOS, and Android.
Progress made while signed out lives only on that device. Signing up carries the local progress across; it does not merge two separate signed-in accounts.
I forgot my password.
Use the password-reset link on the sign-in screen. We email you a reset link. If it does not arrive, check spam, and check whether you originally signed up with Google or Apple rather than a password. Those accounts have no Toorova password to reset.
Can I change my display name?
Yes, in Profile, any time.
How do I delete my account?
Three routes, all equivalent:
- In the app: Settings → Delete account.
- On the web: toorova.com/account-deletion.
- By email: support@newronrobotics.com.
Deleting removes your account and its data, apart from anything we are required to keep for legal, security, fraud-prevention, billing, or compliance reasons. It also removes you from any class rosters and parent dashboards, and ends invitations you had sent.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel that separately, through whichever store or processor you bought it from. See below.
Subscriptions and billing
How do I subscribe, and who takes the payment?
Payment is handled entirely by the platform you buy on, the Apple App Store on iOS, Google Play on Android, or Stripe on the web. We never receive or store your full card details. Your subscription status is reported back to us so Premium unlocks on your account.
I bought Premium on my phone. Does it work on the web?
Yes, provided you are signed in to the same account in both places. The entitlement is attached to your account, not to the device you bought on.
If you bought without ever creating a named account, the purchase is tied to a silent identity on that one device and cannot follow you anywhere. Create an account while it is still active and it comes with you.
What happens when my subscription ends?
Premium locks as soon as the store tells us the entitlement is off. On expiry, refund, or a billing problem. During the session, not only at next launch. You fall back to the free Foundations courses, at two lessons a day, and keep every bit of progress you made.
Your progress is not deleted. XP, streak, badges, passed lessons and certificates earned all stay on your account, and everything reopens if you resubscribe.
How do I cancel?
- iOS: Settings app → your name → Subscriptions.
- Android: Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Web: the app opens the Stripe customer portal from your account screen, where you can manage or cancel.
Cancel where you bought. We cannot cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription on your behalf, the store owns that relationship, and neither can we see your payment method.
I paid but Premium isn't showing.
- Make sure you are signed in to the account you expect, on this device.
- On iOS and Android, tap Restore purchases on the subscription screen.
- On the web there is no "restore", a web purchase attaches to the account you were signed in as. Sign in as that account.
- Still wrong? Contact us with the email you used and the store you bought from.
Do you take promo codes?
Yes, but they are platform-specific and not interchangeable: a Stripe promotion code can be entered on the web checkout, App Store offer codes are redeemed through Apple, and Google Play codes through Play. A code issued for one platform will not work on another.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by whoever took the payment, Apple, Google, or Stripe, under their own policies, and are requested through them. If a refund is granted, Premium locks on your account when the store reports it. See the Terms, and write to us if something looks wrong.
Progress and certificates
What is the difference between finishing and passing a lesson?
They are separate on purpose.
- Completed. You reached the end. This happens however it went. Your place in the course, the next-lesson recommendation, and path progress all use this, so a bad day never blocks you or makes you redo something before the course will move on.
- Passed. You got at least 70% of the lesson's scored questions right. XP, badges, and certificates are earned by passing.
You are always shown the bar as a count, not a percentage: on a four-question lesson it reads "get 3 of 4 right".
I did badly. Have I lost the XP?
No. XP is deferred, not forfeited. Come back, pass the lesson, and you are paid in full. Including the perfect-score bonus if you earn it. Struggling the first time costs you nothing at all. A pass is permanent once you have it.
How do I earn a certificate?
By passing every lesson a certificate covers, not merely finishing them. There is one certificate per stage of the course, one for the whole curriculum, and, if you are on a professional track, one for that track.
Everyone can see the certificates as goals, with a progress figure and a list of what is still unfinished versus finished-but-not-yet-passed. Downloading the certificate as a PDF is a Premium feature, and the name printed on it is one you enter, stored on your device.
We hold this line deliberately. A credential you can tap your way through is worth nothing to you, to a parent, or to anyone reading it.
How does the review system decide what to bring back?
Getting a question wrong schedules that specific idea to come back, at the front of the queue. Getting it right repeatedly stretches the gap before you see it again. Roughly one day, then three, seven, fourteen, thirty. A miss drops it straight back to the start.
One rule worth knowing: answering correctly seconds after reading the answer does not earn a long interval. That is recognition, not memory, and treating it as memory would let you read your way to a thirty-day gap on something you do not know.
The app also judges each topic on a weighted recent accuracy, where recent attempts count for more, so one bad day does not erase established mastery, and one good day does not erase a real weakness either. More on why in Why you forget, and what to do about it.
How do streaks and streak freezes work?
A streak counts consecutive days you learn. Streak freezes cover a missed day; you earn them by levelling up, at most one a day, and can hold at most three. Since one freeze covers one day, no absence longer than three days can be bridged, which is intentional, because a streak that survives anything is not measuring anything.
Creating an account also grants a small XP bonus and one starter freeze, so the concept is real and explainable from day one.
What happens if I lose connection mid-lesson?
If you are signed in and go offline, completed lessons are queued on your device and sent in order when you reconnect, so nothing you finished is lost. Genuine errors. As opposed to "the network wasn't there". Are surfaced rather than retried silently.
Toorova does not have a "download for offline" feature. A long flight with no connection is not a supported way to use it.
Parents and guardians
How do I link to my child's account?
You create an invitation and send it to them. They sign in, see who is asking, and approve it. Only then does the link exist and the parent dashboard appear.
The rule the whole system is built around: typing someone's email address never gives you access to their account. The address is only a delivery target for the invitation link. It is never looked up, so the invitation cannot be used to discover whether an address has a Toorova account.
What can I see about my child, and what can't I?
You can see: their display name, whether they have been active recently and how consistently, XP, level, streak, badges, their daily goal, which lessons they have finished and which they have passed, the course they are on, and the plain-language titles of what they have been working on. The dashboard is built to answer "is this person learning, and are they stuck?"
You cannot see: individual questions and the answers they gave, which option they picked, reflections written in their private journal, or their AI tutor conversations.
That boundary is enforced in our database rules, not just in how the screens are laid out. It is not an oversight and it is not configurable, a teenager who believes a wrong answer will be reported stops giving honest answers, and the course stops working.
How do I unlink, and what happens to what I could see?
Either side can end the link at any time, from the connections screen. Access stops immediately and the copy of the learner's progress that fed your dashboard is deleted, a removed parent keeps no snapshot.
My child is 13–17. Who approves the AI features?
You do, from your own signed-in account, not a box ticked on their device. Where a guardian is linked, that is the only route, and the permission stops applying if the link is later removed. You can withdraw it at any time.
If no guardian is linked, a 13–17 learner confirms on their own device that they have permission, and that is recorded as a self-declaration. We are being plain about the limit there: it is weaker than a linked-guardian approval, which is exactly why linking is the better option if you want the decision to be yours.
My child is under 13.
Toorova is intended for ages 13 and up, and the AI features are never unlocked for an under-13 account. By anyone, including a parent. That is enforced on our servers, not merely in the app, and it cannot be undone by tapping through the age question again: once an account has answered "under 13", changing that answer needs a linked adult or our support team. A retry button on an age gate is not an age gate.
Schools have a separate route for linking a parent to an under-13 student, described under Teachers and classes.
Teachers and classes
How do students join my class?
Creating a class generates a join code. Students enter it in the app, see a confirmation screen naming the class, its subject and you as the teacher, and tap Join.
You can regenerate the code whenever you want. Every older code stops working immediately, including one someone has already copied down. Code attempts are rate-limited, and a wrong, retired, archived, or closed code all return the same message, so the code cannot be guessed at or probed.
Can I restrict who joins?
Yes. A class can be limited to specific email domains, so only students signed in with a school account can join, and the confirmation screen tells them that before they tap Join, rather than refusing them afterwards. You can also close enrollment or archive the class entirely.
Can I assign specific lessons?
Yes. You can assign work directly, and you can build a learning track, a named, reusable, ordered sequence of lessons you author once and assign to any class. A school can publish tracks for every teacher on its license.
Assigning a track takes a snapshot, so a class's syllabus can never change underneath your students because someone edited the track later. Students see ordinary assignments; there is no new concept for them to learn.
What do I see about my students?
The same view a linked parent gets, for the students in your class: activity and consistency, XP, level, streak, badges, daily goal, lessons finished and lessons passed, and the titles of what they are working on. Not individual answers, not journal reflections, not AI tutor conversations. Same boundary, same reason.
Do my students need to pay?
There is a route for sponsored Premium without a store purchase, for schools and partners. A teacher or school applies; applying grants nothing on its own, and approval is granted by us rather than self-serve. An approved license has a capped, dated number of seats, a class sponsors seats against it, and a seat is returned when a student leaves the class or the license ends.
To start that conversation, contact us.
I teach students under 13.
An approved educator can invite a parent to link to a student. The teacher does not create the link; they only vouch that this child and this family are theirs, which is the thing a school is genuinely in a position to know. The parent still has to receive the email, sign in as that address, and accept, so the consenting gesture belongs to an adult from start to finish. Approval is re-checked at the moment of acceptance, not only when the invitation was sent.
This does not unlock the AI features for an under-13 account. Nothing does.
The AI tutor
What is it, and who can use it?
An AI tutor you can ask about the lesson you are on. It is a Premium feature, and it is gated by age: 18+ can use it; 13–17 need parental permission; under-13 accounts never can. Those checks run on our servers, so they cannot be bypassed from the app.
What can the tutor see about me?
Your own learning record, and only yours: which lessons you have passed or finished, how solid each topic is for you, specific questions you recently got wrong and the answer you picked, the lesson and step you are on, and what is due for review. This is assembled on our servers from your account and sent with your question, which is what lets it address the actual misconception rather than re-explaining from scratch.
It can never include another learner's record. And it is not shown to your parent, guardian, or teacher. Question-level detail is deliberately kept out of what connected adults can see.
What should I not put into it?
Sensitive personal information, confidential information, or private information about other people. Your messages are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate the reply, the providers we use are named in the Privacy Policy.
It is also a learning aid, not an authority. It can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date, and it is not a substitute for a qualified teacher, engineer, doctor, lawyer, or safety expert. Verifying its output is, as it happens, one of the skills the course sets out to teach.
It told me it couldn't answer right now.
The AI features run under usage and cost caps. When a cap is reached you get a plain explanation and can try again later. We deliberately do not silently downgrade to a worse answer instead: a tutor that quietly gets worse with no way to find out why is one you would stop trusting, and rightly.
Are there other AI features?
Yes. Interview practice, portfolio drafting, and an optional review of project work you submit. They are Premium and subject to the same age and permission gate.
Privacy and your data
What do you collect, and do you sell it?
We do not sell your personal information, we do not show third-party ads inside Toorova, and we do not use your data to train our own AI models. The full account of what is collected, why, and who it goes to is in the Privacy Policy, which also names every service provider involved.
We do not collect your location, contacts, or microphone.
Can I get a copy of my data, or have it corrected?
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict processing of your data. There is no self-serve export button in the app yet, so email support@newronrobotics.com and we will handle it. Details and your other rights are in the Privacy Policy.
How do I stop marketing emails?
Marketing email is opt-in, an unchecked box at sign-up, and every such email has an unsubscribe link. Opting out never affects account emails like password resets.
Troubleshooting
The class code my teacher gave me doesn't work.
The message is deliberately the same for every failure, so check all of these: the code was typed correctly; it has not been regenerated by your teacher since you were given it; enrollment is still open and the class is not archived; and, if the class is restricted to a school domain, that you are signed in with your school account rather than a personal one. If several attempts fail in quick succession you may be rate-limited. Wait a moment. Then check the code with your teacher.
My certificate hasn't appeared even though I finished everything.
Almost always the finished-versus-passed distinction. The certificate screen lists exactly which required lessons are unfinished and which are finished but not yet passed. Retake the ones in the second list.
The AI tutor is locked.
Check, in order: you have an active subscription; you are signed in to the account that holds it; you have answered the age question; and, if you are 13–17 with a linked guardian, that they have approved from their own account. If the account has ever answered "under 13", the tutor stays locked until a linked adult or our support team corrects it.
Something crashed, or a page went blank.
Reload first. On the web that usually picks up the latest version. If it persists, tell us what you were doing, on which device and browser, and roughly when, and we can match it to the error report.
Things you can't do yet
Listed here rather than left for you to discover, because a help center that describes features which do not exist generates the support tickets it was meant to prevent.
- Change the email address on your account. There is no in-app control. Write to us and we will sort it.
- Export your data yourself. Email us and we will handle the request.
- Download lessons for offline use. Completions sync after a dropout, but the course needs a connection.
- Restore purchases on the web. That button is mobile-only; on the web, sign in as the account that bought.
- Merge two accounts you already created. Local progress carries into a new account at sign-up, but two existing signed-in accounts cannot be combined.
- Unlock the AI features for an under-13 account. Not a gap, a rule.
